Skincare Supplements to Make You Glow

Hello, tender friends!

Here’s a roundup of my favorite supplements for skin care. I don’t take them all the time, but I try to take at least one of these things at any given time.

  1. Spirulina- an inexpensive, blue-green algae that is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth. I haven’t been taking it the past few years because I’m generally so nourished, but I took it regularly when I was getting my master’s degree and working for Teach for America since I barely had time to eat back then. Because I was so undernourished, it dramatically improved the look of my skin.

A powder supplement tends to be cheaper per ounce, but I recommend pill form if your budget allows for it.

    2. Cod liver oil- Cod liver oil is high in vitamin D, and sunburn is caused by low vitamin-D levels. I took this before a cruise through the Caribbean years ago to raise my vitamin-D levels, and it prevented a lot of sunburn. I personally only buy this in pill form because CLO makes me gag on a spoon.

    3. Vitamin C- This works with cod liver oil to prevent sunburn, boost collagen production and brighten skin tone.

    4. Collagen- I get most of this through my beloved bone broth, but I sometimes take powder supplements if I don’t have time to cook bone broth for few days.

    5. Royal bee jelly- I love bee jelly supplements and find they give my skin a glowy quality. These can’t be taken during pregnancy because they can stimulate the uterus to contract, and they’re the supplement I missed the most during my pregnancy with Jacob. Because I’ve long suspected that I have trouble methylating B-vitamins, the naturally methylated B-vitamins in bee jelly have been huge for me. I try to take this almost every day, as it helps with fatigue.

Of course, all of these food-based supplements also have health benefits since God’s pharmacy is always the best pharmacy. I’m constantly grateful that God has given me a life that allows me the luxury of supplementing for vitamin deficiencies and the joy of learning about these things. Every piece of knowledge is a privilege.

Ok, that’s all for today, tender friends! Next week I’ll write about how I hydrate my skin, then we’ll get back to some more spiritual posts. Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing!

Yes, this resonates with me, “Of course, all of these food-based supplements also have health benefits since God’s pharmacy is always the best pharmacy. How much Vitamin C per day is recommended to improve skin health, Stacey?

That’s a great question, Nancy! The recommendation is 75 mg per women but not to exceed 2000 mg per day. But this is where natural vs. synthetic is so important. I get a ton of my vitamin c from broccoli and you can never overdose on food-based nutrition.

If you’re supplementing, I’d start with a vitamin C powder like they sell on radiant life with one serving and then increase it to test my tolerance and avoid a stomachache. You’ll know you’ve hit the right dose when you notice your skin glowing a bit. 🙂
