Hello, tender friends!
As part of living a more holistic life, I cut out a ton of skincare products that weren’t actually healthy that I used in my younger years, including those that boast cellular turnover.
In the short term, products that increase cellular turnover do make skin look better, but you’re burning your turnover rate out over the long term. There’s a huge difference between using nutrition to boost your turnover rate at the cellular level and applying a product that forces the cells to turn over.
Anyhow, rant over.

Here are the skincare products that I think help me look (a little) younger without artificially boosting cellular turnover.
- Aloe vera- I need to grow my own aloe plant to be closer to nature, but I’ll use this until then. It cools my skin as soon as I put it on, even if I haven’t been out in the sun. It boosts collagen and elastin, and I often use this on my skin at night.
- Lanolin. Yes, this will make you smell like a sheep. But in the middle of winter, if you’re out shoveling snow, this will form the most effective barrier between your cheeks and the raw elements that I’ve found to date. I only use this on cold, bitter days, as my skin gets too oily with it otherwise.
- Rose water toner-This brightens a dull complexion, but more importantly, provides an instant mood boost. I spritz it on my face after the shower and sometimes during the day for a little pick-me-up. It’s cheap and makes me feel HAPPY every time I use it!

- Jojoba oil- Locks in moisture, so I put this on my face at night when I’m not using aloe vera.

- A blend of Shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and essential oils. Of everything I use, this has the second most dramatic effect on the look of my skin. Shea butter boosts collagen production, and this blend is magic if you don’t wear makeup.

6. Colloidal silver-This is not generally used for skin care, but this is my best “secret!” My skin feels amazing when I put this on, and the nanoparticles of silver must reflect light, because I look noticeably less tired when I use this under my eyes. I don’t wear foundation or concealer (and won’t because of the toxicity, the only exception being my wedding day when I hired someone to do my makeup), and my under eye area is naturally thin and dark looking. Using colloidal silver has been a game changer in this way!

Do I still have signs of aging? Yes, absolutely. I have crow’s feet around my eyes and other imperfections. But I’m just not willing to deal with the toxicity of makeup to try to cover them up, and these natural products get me by and make me feel better about how I look as I get older.

There are high-quality products that are from God’s pharmacy and don’t contain preservatives out there, and I’ve also used those in the past. But I’ve swapped them out for these over the years, as I use the silver as a general antibiotic and use several of the other things on this list to make my homemade deodorant.
Of course, the thing not on this list is stress reduction. I struggled so much when I taught full time for a nonprofit that I had pretty severe premature aging. My body was pumping cortisol so hard all the time that I woke up every day looking like a train had run over my face. I still have to actively work at regulating my nervous system because I didn’t learn it when I was child. So that’s an ongoing battle, and I sometimes feel like I’m playing catch up to mitigate damage from past decades.
Because I still have a lot I want to accomplish during my life, I use this prayer and affirmation on a weekly basis: Thank you, Lord, for making me young at a cellular level and allowing me to continue to be able-bodied .
Ok, that’s all for today, tender friends! Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing!
