Hello, and Happy Memorial Day, tender friends!
As you head out to your barbecues or other celebrations while we wait out the rain here in Virginia, I wanted to share this moment of gratitude.
I had one of those moments this weekend. Those moments that make you ask, “Why God, why do I get all of these good things?”
I let the chickens out of their coop. The air was fresh and clean from rain a few hours earlier. The sun streaked through the trees.
I retrieved the eggs from the coop, more than I could carry in one trip back to the house. I cradled the ovular smoothness in the palm of my hand, still warm from being freshly laid.
The chickens pecked the ground, finding worms from the recent rain. They wriggled, hanging out of either side of their beaks. The birds chirped as the wind moved the branches of the trees.
Why God, why do I get all of these good things?
Okay, tender friends, that’s all for today! Enjoy the remainder of the long weekend!
