Happy Resurrection Day or Happy Easter?

Hello, tender friends!

I forgot that this Sunday was Easter when laying out the timeline for the next skincare posts, so I’ll return to those next week.

This is on my mind right now: Do you greet people on Easter by saying “Happy Easter” or “Happy Resurrection Day?”

Even though I’ve been aware of the pagan roots of Easter- and so many other Christian holidays – for a long time, I’m paying more attention this year. The word “Easter” comes from the Anglo -Saxon goddess Eostre. The word isn’t related to Ishtar, and that’s considered a misconception by historians and linguists.

But it is related to Eostre, and the practice of egg hunting is derived from the pagan practice of using eggs to invite fertility.

Does this matter? So many things we’ve a sorbed into Christianity aren’t biblically accurate. Does God care if we have fun doing egg hunts because the practice was originally pagan, or is it a non-issue because egg hunting is morally neutral?

If you have any thoughts, please share. On one hand, I see it as innocent fun. On the other hand, I believe in spiritual law and don’t want to interfere with the input/output cycle or sowing and reaping. While I think a lot of modern issues up for debate are nuanced, I don’t believe spiritual law is nuanced at all.

Ok, and here’s some non-controversial food photos, although I neglected to get pictures of everything.

My sister decorated these eggs, as I don’t have the patience for things like this.

Ok, that’s all for today, tender friends! Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing!

    Hi Stacey!

Among my Christian friends, my favorite Easter greeting is “He is Risen”!!! It captures the WHY of this happy holiday.

However, I don’t hesitate to greet folks with “Happy Easter”. For me, it embodies a feeling of springtime and new life. Wow ~ do we look forward to this after wintertime. AND, if it’s actually on Easter Sunday … depending on my mood, I’ll add a “He is Risen” too! Perhaps it will lead to an opportuity to share the message of God’s amazing love.

    Thanks for your post! Cathy
