Why I’m Bearcrawling Every Day

Hello, tender friends!

What if 30 seconds could regulate you when you’re stressed about work, or you’re worried about your kids, or you just had a fight with your spouse? Well, it can.

I had a bad day last week, and I kept bear crawling throughout the day, intuitively knowing it would make me feel better. Then I looked it up when I realized how effective it was to see if it was all in my head.

It wasn’t all in my head. Or, it was all in my head, like everything is always all in your head.

But there’s science to support the fact that bear crawling calms your nervous system. Cross-lateral coordination enhances the communication between left and right brain hemispheres. Because you’re on the floor, you’re getting consistent biofeedback, which increases proprioception (awareness of your limbs in space) and reduces anxiety. These things, and others, calm the nervous system.

The best part about this is that you can do it even if you’re too busy to get in a real workout. If you bear crawl backwards and forward with proper form, you’re going to get your heart rate up in 30 seconds. I have been doing this several times throughout the day when my work schedule prevents me from going to the gym.

I’ve been praying for years that God would lead me to regulate my nervous system, and this is one of the ways he does it. I struggle mentally when I don’t have time to work out, and this is one way God is showing me that I can get discharge the energy that I need to even when driving to the gym isn’t possible for a few days in a row.

An added bonus is that the bear crawl will immediately vanquish bank pain caused by sitting. I have always struggled to sit for extended periods of time, but this has been even more effective than squatting every half hour, which is usually what I do at work.

While the term nervous system regulation doesn’t appear in the Bible, many of the diseases Jesus healed-like blindness and paralysis- are diseases of the nervous system. I believe the Lord highlighted this to me to confirm that I’m on the right path continuing to learn new strategies to calm my nervous system.

Ok, that’s all for today, tender friends! Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing! Oh, and while it’s secondary, the bear crawl will make your abs looked firmer and younger. Happy bear crawling!
