Don’t Despise Small Beginnings

Hello, tender friends!

Sometimes God answers my prayers, and I almost forget that I even asked!

I’m on the planning committee for a local writers group called Roanoke Valley Christian writers, which I’ve mentioned on here before.

When the October speaker canceled, one of the other members of the planning committee asked if I could fill in. They asked if I could give a presentation on blogging.

Blogging? I thought incredulously. Blogging reached its hay day probably in 2012, and I rebooted my blog (this version of it) in 2022. Blogging is so last decade that anybody could simply Google any information they wanted about it. I felt ridiculous when I thought about monopolizing people’s time and making them listen to a presentation about blogging.

I initially responded by saying I didn’t think it was worth a presentation slot.

Then, as I was having my quiet time with the Lord, he brought to mind the fact that I had prayed for an opportunity to wear a blazer I own. I bought it just before I got pregnant with Jacob, but then I never wore it because I started wearing maternity wear.

I know that might sound silly – but I really liked the blazer at the time that I bought it and was looking forward to it being an easy work staple to throw on.

The Lord quietly reminded me that I had asked for an opportunity to wear the blazer and that he was giving me that opportunity through speaking at the Roanoke Valley Christian writers meaning. It might not have been the topic I would have chosen, but that’s really not the point. How silly I was to ask for something in prayer and then not recognize when God was answering that prayer!

I also live by the mantra “Don’t despise small beginnings” because it’s something that a dear pastor at our home Church said a lot.

I consequently accepted the opportunity, and we all had a great time! I worked a few writing prompts into the presentation and loved hearing everyone’s responses.

I hope that somehow God will make this more of a regular thing in the future. I’ve always felt like public speaking is a soft skill and that anybody can do it, and the world doesn’t need any more public speakers. Have you heard the vapid things being said on podcasts now that everybody’s trying to rush to be featured on a podcast?

I don’t want to be vapid, but I’m leaving it in the Lord’s hands. Maybe he’ll turn it into something and maybe not. His plans are good either way.

Ok, that’s all for today! Here I am with my little darling:

thank you, mary! Those decorations are at a nearby cafe. Our tree looks… Interesting this year as Jacob has decorated it almost entirely himself. 😂🤣
