How We Treated Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever at Home

Hello, tender friends!

Don’t worry-this kid is doing absolutely fine!

Treating Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is no joke. But the silver lining is that this experience has increased my confidence in my home medicine cabinet in treating something that I had not previously encountered. And for those of you who are concerned that I didn’t really treat it effectively, please don’t fret – this was only a temporary measure until we confirmed what was going on.

This is the protocol I followed when I realized Jacob had every single symptom of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and that he had likely had it for at least a month based on how the red rash was spreading:

  1. One teaspoon of colloidal silver every 8 hours. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is typically treated with dioxacycline, and I knew that there was no way that I was going to give Jacob that for many different reasons. I fly into research mode whenever Jacob gets sick, and I found an abstract that stated that colloidal silver is actually more effective than dioxacycline in treating Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever anyway. Administering that with a no-brainer, but I didn’t know if that was enough.
  2. One-30c dose of ledum homeopathy every 3-4 hours. I found this portion of the protocol online. One of the tenets of homeopathy is to use the minimum effective dose, and this minimum dose seem to work for his body size.

3. Apply a paste of bentonite clay mixed with water over the site of the bite. This was a game changer! Within 5 minutes of applying the paste over the bite area, Jacob said, “Mommy, my arm is starting to feel better.” By the time I found that portion of the protocol online I had already been treating him with the colloidal silver and ledum for about 24 hours, so it could have been those things having greater effect over time. However, the fact that he felt a difference so quickly makes me believe that was perhaps the most important component of this healing protocol. If you’ve checked out my armpit detox recipe, you already know that I love bentonite clay and how cost-effective it is. I believe every mom should have this in her home medicine cabinet!

Like I said, lest anyone should be spazzing out right now, this was a temporary measure until we found an herbalist to continue treating Jacob and ensure that the bacteria was eradicated from his system. But for those 3 days while we were waiting for test results, this was a lifesaver. The herbalist was impressed with how well Jacob was rebounding even before Jacob started on his protocol. God’s pharmacy is the best!

Having a sick kid is terrifying, and I don’t ever wish to repeat this. But I have to admit that I am in some ways at my best when this stuff happens. My hyper focus cranks up so hard that I read through medical abstracts like they’re best-selling novels. Nothing else mattered for the two days I was tweaking the protocol and waiting for test results.

The downside? I spent two days after he started to show significant improvement rebounding myself from all that adrenaline. Once it was gone and I knew my treasure was safe, I crashed hard.

This is motherhood…one week homeschooling in the sun, the next week researching like the world is ending.

That’s all for today, tender friends! Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing!

Such an overwhelming relief when our little ones respond to treatment and they return to their bouncy, chattery selves. ‘Glad Jacob rebounded so quickly. Now YOU can rest!
