Mother’s Day Mini Adventure

Hello, and happy belated mother’s day, tender friends!

I hope your celebration was as fun as mine! We had a family mini adventure that I’d been pondering for a while. After church, we headed to a grist mill (you can see the turbine outside the mill in the background).

We walked around “town” (population 139 people) for a bit. I regret that I didn’t snap a picture, but we passed a house the color of lemon custard. The bright pop of color beneath the breeze and the blue sky was just so beautiful. I’ve been thinking about it all day, even today.

Then we popped into a restaurant called the Swinging Bridge, because it has an actual swinging bridge on the upper floor!

Cub didn’t flip over the bridge like we thought he would, but he loved playing checkers with his daddy, also on the upper floor of the restaurant.

Because it was mother’s day, they gave each mom a complimentary truffle or a carnation after the meal, which was so thoughtful. What a lovely mother’s day gesture.

Outside the restaurant, we stopped to warm ourselves next to what we thought was just a wood stove for ambience (it was cold on top of the mountain).

But it was actually a meat smoker.

That’s one of the cooks standing next to Anthony. He said that they smoke each piece of meat for over a day. The meat comes from a local bison farm just down the road. I neglected to get a picture with the bison at the farm, so this will have to do for the day’s animal photos:

We shopped at the general store, also connected to the restaurant.

The whole day felt like we traveled back in time… except with 2024 post inflation prices, haha. But it was worth it.

I ended the day with the most delicious broccoli that Anthony took out of our garden early because it was starting to go to seed.

The flavor was intense, sort of nutty. All did was saute it with olive oil, garlic, and salt.

I’m so grateful for our little family, and our mini adventures. I’m a blessed woman.

I hope your mother’s day was good too!

Thank you for stopping by, and thank you to the new friends!

What a fun place you and your family found to visit, Stacey! I too enjoyed a lovely Mother’s Day, celebrated the day before with our older son and family at a flea market. Then we delighted in a rooftop supper of tacos at a local restaurant. Our other two children (who live a distance away) remembered their old mom with gifts, cards, and phone calls. I am a blessed woman also!
