Mercy in the Curse

Hello tender friends, and happy belated Easter! I neglected to take a picture at church yesterday, so here’s a picture of Cubby and me from a few weeks ago. I made that necklace on one of my crafting adventures making noni.

Oh, and here are some quick photos of Boo Boo having a grand old time at the Easter egg hunt at church this past Saturday.

He had so much fun. And so did I making bread! If you’re wondering if I made another loaf of dandelion and wild violet bread for Easter, the answer is yes.

And, as promised, here were my thoughts as Cubby and I made our foray into foraging last week:

  1. Remember when Daniel refused the rich food from the king and followed his comparatively humble diet and actually got stronger? I love meat and credit meat products with part of my healing, so I won’t be giving them up unless God says to, but I repeatedly think about Daniel when Cub and I forage together. Almost everything you forage contains vitamin A and C, including the abundant and easy to find dandelions and wild violets. Humble food also heals.
  2. When Anthony and I started gardening, it humbled me in a way I didn’t know I needed to be humbled. Something about sweating in the intense heat of day, of becoming aware of how hard it is to grow enough food for survival and praying regularly over the crops, of always having dirt underneath my nails- it all makes me feel closer to God. And crawling around in the dirt to forage for food that some people spray chemicals to get rid of has taken that feeling even deeper It puts you in position to easily (and literally) get on your face before the Lord because you’re already so close to the ground.
  3. Remember when weeds entered the garden of Eden as part of the Fall and the subsequent curse? (My study Bible says noxious weeds entered the world in Genesis 3:18). But here we are, obtaining substantial nutrition from “weeds” that most people despise. Even more amazing is that many noxious weeds, such as Belladonna, create important and powerful homeopathic remedies that have enabled us to avoid harsh pharmaceuticals in our house. Jacob has never taken an antibiotic in his life, and I was able to treat a wicked migraine just last week using only homeopathy. Once I found the right remedy, it passed in under 15 minutes, and I fell into merciful slumber.

And isn’t all of that just like God? We rebelled against the Master of the Universe and God gave us punishment as good parents do.

But he loves us so much, and works everything for our good so thoroughly, that he hid mercy in the curse.

You see now why it’s so easy to get on my face before God.

Ok, thank you for stopping by today, friends! I’ll be sharing a review of my friend’s book that I announced a few weeks ago in Thursday’s post.

Thank you for sharing!

Now that I am wanting to try the dandelion thing, I haven’t seen any in our yard – lol. I’ll keep looking for them. You also might be interested in “Verde Largos” or purslane in English, if you haven’t discovered that weed yet or if it grows where you are at.

Here’s a link to the first of a three post series from a pastor I follow here on WP. You might be interested in this series. If not, that’s ok.

thank you for sharing that, Susan! I could not remember the name of Bluebonnet in English because it’s much easier in Spanish (lupino, like its latin name lupinus) .

Our chickens LOVE purslane, and it grows in our backyard, but I never thought to try it myself. Thank you for the tip! I’ll look it up in my foraging book and maybe that will be our next adventure!

Cubby loves picking bluebonnets, so he wouldn’t fare well in Texas.

Hugs from VA! (It feels a little weird saying that because I’m not actually from here, yet here I am for now).
