Preserving Joy

Hello, tender friends!

Cub had a BLAST at a local children’s museum downtown that I’ve been wanting to visit for a while. I’m so glad I made the time to go because it was so worth it.

Cub pretended to build things.

He pretended to go fishing.

He tried repeatedly to count the fish swimming around.

And he did many other things. As soon as we walked in, he got right to playing and did NOT want to leave.

On the wall of the museum was this quote, which isn’t really from Albert Einstein, but I’m not worried about that:

Watching Cub so instantly engaged and full of unselfconscious joy I couldn’t help but wonder…when did I lose that? Did I ever actually possess it like he does?

And how do I preserve it for him for as long as possible?

The interpretation I’ve always heard about becoming like a little child to enter heaven has been about trusting Jesus. But watching Cub play and be joyful in his productivity, I thought that maybe that’s what God meant too. Maybe He wants us to find what makes us joyfully productive because that’s what eternity in heaven is going to be like. Maybe following your bliss is good preparation for the afterlife with Jesus.

Oh, and of course this kid also got to follow his bliss at home by planting these leeks with Anthony. And I’ll be posting the delicious things I cook with them soon!

Ok, thank you for stopping by friends! My post on Thursday will likely be about the time God tapped me on the shoulder unless some other inspiration strikes.

Thank you for sharing!

Being joyful in productivity is a great concept! Blessed are those who spend their working life exercising their passion. I am fortunate to have done that for 43 years! Thanks for the reminder to be JOYFUL!

“follow my bliss” I like that phrase. I think I have lived my life that way much of the time. I had 3 dark years in a job (and location) our kids now refer as the place “where dad didn’t smile”. As a retired guy my recommendation is to “Stay out of them places, stay close to Jesus and Trust the Lord to Lead us out of those barren valleys to flourishing pastures in life…I think Cub is ready to learn how to fish…just saying…

Gary, I so feel you in staying out of those places! I also had a job I hated and am thankful every day to not be there. Sometimes it takes other people telling us they never see a smile to realize we need to get out of those kinds of places!

Cub would probably LOVE to go fishing for real. We’ll have to figure that out soon, although it probably won’t be as cool as ice fishing where you live.

The children’s museum looks like a fun place for either children or adults! Adults get to follow their bliss by observing and participating with their children! And that spring garden – looking good!

yes, Mary, watching him is such a blessing!

I can’t take any credit for that part of the garden though. Those two planted everything while I made dinner!
