The Weekend Event More Important than Football

Hello, tender friends!

As you may imagine, I don’t care that much about the Super bowl. Other than periodically checking the TV to make sure that sexualized women weren’t parading on the screen while Cubby and Anthony “watched” it, I mostly finished up our taxes. (“Watched” is in quotes because Cubby was much more interested in playing hide and seek).

This is how I feel about watching most sports on TV:

But the fact that it was Super bowl weekend and my church hosted its annual Night to Shine event on Friday night got me thinking about priorities.

We didn’t volunteer for night to shine despite the fact that Anthony and I both wanted to because we didn’t have a place to keep Cubby while we did so. But they still had the decorations set up when we went to church yesterday and played video clips of the evening.

They do such an amazing job decorating!

As I watched the video clips of people dancing and being crowned, I couldn’t help but think how special it is that Tim Tebow and his wife put so much of their hearts into this ministry.

They’re young, healthy, attractive, and probably pretty wealthy. But they’re not sitting on all of their blessings and ignoring the people around them. They have every reason to be on top of the world and just enjoying life, but they are actively choosing ministry over things that a lot of other celebrities do. That makes me teary eyed in admiration.

Seriously. How many celebrities spend their time ministering to people with special needs like this?

And if God ever chooses to make me a millionaire, that’s the kind of rich person I want to be.

I especially loved watching the men and women who attended night to shine receive their crowns. Because that’s just what Jesus would want, isn’t it?

The verses about royalty are particularly important to me because of what God told me the day that Anthony and I got engaged, but I’ll save that for Thursday’s post! I also have another post about Tim Tebow for the future because he’s such an inspiration for me raising a boy.

In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying the memory of the video clip that displayed so much JOY in that event.

    I decided to watch the Rose Parade on TV this year, growing up in Cali it was a big deal. Did I blog about that here on WP recently? I think that is what made me want to watch it. Every time it was a band’s turn to be in front of the camara, I would say, “Here come the whores.”, because of how each drill team was dressed.😮 😏I think my husband was thinking I was being too cadish as he made the comment, “Whores? They’re not whores.” To which I replied, “They are dressed close enough to them.”. 😜 I’m not trying to be disrespectful or rude, but I’m just tired of all this immodest dressing, even in the church. 🙄

    This past week, I have been watching AGT/BGT, I’ve discovered from very good songs, but this one video, I had to forward through this one little girl’s stuff. I wanted to slap the parents. When the girl, about 10, auditioned she was in jeans and a shirt. She made it through to the main part of the competition. What she was dressed in then was beyond my tolerance. There’s nothing I can do about it now, so I just forward through the rest of her stuff. I can not comprehend any parent giving into having their child dress like that. Having a pedo father, puts things in a certain perspective, believe me.

    Anyway, I’m not a sports fan either, but I do miss the “social parties” of church. I do see their purpose now. The challenge is keeping things in the proper moderation. We can’t control if some one uses church just for social stuff and not furthering their relationship with Yeshua, but they are necessary. Hugs. You’re awesome.

      I’m so sorry to hear about your father, Susan. What a tragedy.

      As for the clothing, I don’t understand why parents would allow that. I think a lot of young teenage girls dress that way because they constantly receive the message that that’s what it means to be sexy and desirable.

      That’s why I don’t let cubby see anything with cheerleaders. Even though I respect the sport and find their tumbling impressive, the NFL cheerleaders are sometimes scantily-clad.
