Hello, tender friends!
Know what nourishes your soul. For me, this includes time to be around fellow creatives.
I attended a holiday party this weekend hosted by a magazine that I write for and had so much more fun than I anticipated!

I only have this picture that I took right before I left to text to my friend (yes, I know it’s not a great pic-I took it because my friend from college and I were texting pics, but it ended up being the only picture I have of myself from the night)

and the picture above of the venue. I meant to take other pictures, but I got too busy simply absorbing the experience.
Why was it so fun?
Because spending time with people who pursue creativity in any form nourishes my soul. Everyone I actually spent time talking to was a photographer, not a writer, but it really doesn’t matter.
I admired the boldness of one woman who showed up to the holiday party wearing these shoes:

I admired someone else who identifies his job as “content creation” who brought a huge poster board for people to sign to remember the night. He asked me if I would mind taking a picture with him and signing it, slightly shyly. I said, “Of course not! I’m impressed by your brilliance in remembering this evening with the grown up version of a yearbook!”
While I won’t be purchasing sparkly Doc Martens anytime soon (because if you’re a mom you know that the amount of money you spend on yourself takes a nosedive when you have kids), I’m living vicariously through people who do.
We all know who the original Creator is. One of the things that has always amazed me about God is how smart he is. I think about the most brilliant people I’ve ever known and how their knowledge is a speck of dust compared to God’s. I’ve always been tickled by the fact that God was able to create every learning discipline so effortlessly.

Every time I encounter creativity or originality, I’m grateful to the person displaying it and reflecting back a speck of God’s character to the world. And yes, that obviously includes you, WordPress friends! Thank you for being amazing!
Okay, that’s all for today, tender friends! I’m actually off to another holiday party tonight (I know, lucky mother here! Two nights out alone in the same month!) and will share some work-related tidbits about that next week.
Thank you for stopping by, and thank you to the new friends!
