Should I Rename This Blog?

Hello, tender friends!

Please help me! I can’t believe it’s already been almost a year of blogging. I got the email about this domain name renewing last week, and I’m thinking about renaming this blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts about this.

Here are two ideas I have with a brief explanation, but I’m totally open to more:

  1. Beauty from ashes- based on Isaiah 61:3. I was thinking primarily of physical healing because of what God did for me. But everyone finds their life in ashes at one point or another, so I thought it had a broad application.

Sky Glitter- based on Isaiah 40:26 and many other verses. I’ve always had an affinity for the night sky, as most people do, and many of my fondest memories hiking, snowboarding and doing other things have been outside beneath a starry night away from from light pollution.

Does such starry sky exist anywhere anymore? My brother and I frequently lament that it’s been years since we’ve seen a truly star-studded sky. How far does one have to travel to find this nowadays? I feel like one of my blog friends told me the answer to this question at some point, but I’ve forgotten!

So my first question is do you like either of those names better than tea and tenderness?

Another thing that would help me out is if you told me how you perceive my writing tone/strengths. I read this in a craft book recently: that rather than define your own writing style, it can provide more clarity to ask how other people perceive it and then to try to develop what other people perceive as your strengths instead of determining them for yourself.

Thematically, I’m planning on continuing more or less how I have been. While my wordpress gets significantly more activity when I post keto/paleo recipes, I never intended to do that exclusively. I intend to continue writing about the variety of topics I have for the last ten months/topics as I feel led by the Lord. Besides, there are so many people who do food posts with much nicer photography that I think it’s silly to try to compete.

(My little Boo Boo had a double birthday party this weekend for his friends- and yes, this is your weekly reminder that I’m a real human. Those are actually trout ponds behind us because our friends who hosted the parties are trout farmers. I’ll get a better pic one day!)

Ok, that’s all for now. Please know that I’m more than happy to return the favor in kind if you want similar feedback on your blog. Please just let me know!

Thank you for stopping by! I’ll be sharing a post on my garden reflections in the style of those old Mastercard commercials on Thursday. I’m sort of nostalgic as the summer season winds down.

Thank you for sharing!

It does not matter the name of the blog.

What is important is the content within it.

As for your content it is very good but is always improving.

I have been a writer for over ten years. Sometimes I look back at my early writing and cringe.
    I am still improving.

    Hi Stacey:
To be honest, I like the current name of your site! It evokes a certain warmth and friendliness, a feeling that I’ve pulled up a chair to sit and listen to what’s on your mind. On the other hand, I think feeling an affinity toward the name of your site is VERY important so if you’re feeling it currently simply doesn’t capture what you want or feel, I say have fun with trying to come up with something new. After ten years of blogging, I changed the name of my site. Back in the day when I enjoyed a lot more readership to my site, the consensus seemed to be everyone loved the playfulness of the name I’d come up with, it probably even attracted readers. But over time, I simply reached a point where it didn’t resonate with me anymore, I almost couldn’t stand it………so I did a new name 🙂

It’s a brave strategy, soliciting feedback about your writing! It’s something I wish I would’ve done more over the years. I was at least lucky over the years to have a couple muses, as it were, friends who helped me see things in my writing that I couldn’t. I’m a new reader here so this definitely a classic FWIW…… but I think you’re a fine writer, it’s effortless to read you. You have nice range. Your essays, even with the varying subject matter…..radiate warmth, introspection, gratefulness.

The next generation of bloggers has some unique challenges. But I hope you stick with it!

Thank you so much, Jason! That warmth and friendliness is what I was going for, specifically with other moms at first. Then it turns out that few moms in 2023 actually reads blogs like they did 20 years ago. It really helps to know that the name appeals to people other than moms since I’ve got a surprising number of people who reach out about struggling with illness (an honor I don’t take lightly after struggling myself and watching my mom find treatment).

As for being “brave,” I’m not precious about my writing. I definitely was at certain points in my life, but writing journalism and being in writing groups has freed me from that. I’m grateful that I can look back at things I wrote a year ago (creative writing is something that I only started a year ago and has less guarantee of turning out well as compared to journalism, which is more formulaic) and cringe instead of wonder why it’s not working. Now I at least have a sense of how to begin revising.

I saw you’re also having rain in your party of the country. I hope your spirits stay high today!

    Stacey,
I’m sorry I haven’t responded to this blog. I’ve mulled it over and agree with the other commenter, you title is perfectly suited to your heart and your style. But I’m wondering if you could add a byline? Here’s a thought for one—steeping beauty from the ashes
Like how we anticipate that good cup of tea that a steeped the right amount of time. The waiting makes the enjoyment that much more. So it is with life.
Those are my thoughts. And I am fairly new to your blog so take my thoughts for what they are. But keep writing. ❤️

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for your thoughtful response! And please don’t apologize! Life is busy. I have weeks where I don’t comment on anyone’s blog.

That’s such a good idea for a tagline! I haven’t messed with that since getting the blog up because I’m not tech savvy, but your suggestion has given me renewed determination.

Enjoy your vacation!! I’m so happy for your leisure time!
