How I Meet With God in the Morning

Hello, tender friends, and happy Memorial Day! As the spring moves toward summer here in SW Virginia, I’m relishing each morning.

Mist rises from the ground in the cool gray dawn. The world remains quiet. I’ve never made it in my travels to the Holy Land, but my own back yard feels hallowed.

I complete my morning chores: feeding and providing water for the chickens and watering the garden. Connecting with nature at this time of day is extra magical.

As I have learned more about mitochondria, I have discovered this awe and wonder if more than “just a feeling.” God has wired us this way because this time of day, when the sun is shy, is optimal for healing.

The morning and evening light, at sunrise and sunset, is rich with infrared light. Infrared light is one of the therapies I used to heal by going to a clinic and paying for it. I was gobsmacked (or should I say God-smacked? Sorry, I just couldn’t resist) when God showed me that it’s available every day outside my own home, free of charge.

Infrared light helps our bodies to detox, reduces pain and muscle tension, boosts the immune system and helps us relax. Getting this morning light in the eyes resets our circadian rhythm so we sleep better at night. Exposing as much skin as possible will get you as much infrared as possible. I wear shorts and a tank top to get the infrared light on my arms and legs.

While I am a strong advocate of my soccer mom visor, I leave it off at this time of day to get the infrared on my face also. The healing energy of infrared light supposedly reduces signs of age and stimulates our own collagen production.

I can vouch for all of those benefits because I’ve experienced them. I was born with scoliosis and have been getting morning sun on my spine now that the weather’s warm enough. I feel a pleasant tingle, like a light massage sensation afterwards. This, in combination with some other things, has eliminated the back pain that plagued me most of my life.

As for the beauty benefits, I generally don’t feel like I look that old, with or without getting infrared on my face, but it definitely hasn’t hurt!

My research also indicates that infrared light can improve circulation, help with weight loss, and lower the side effects of diabetes. (These aren’t problems I’ve had, so I’d be intrigued to know if anyone trying to lose weight does this and sees results).

I’ve said it before, but I’ll keep saying it: I’m always stunned by my own prior ignorance. That GIF is pretty much an every day occurrence.

When my mom received her cancer diagnosis, no doctor mentioned the healing energy available in God’s morning light, even though her clinic was state of the art and so far ahead of American oncology. When Anthony struggled with addiction for 20 years, going in and out of rehab, no one mentioned the healing energy of morning light. When my own body broke down and I sought solace in a support group with other women, not one of them mentioned the healing energy of morning light.

The more that I learn about how to heal using God’s creation, without spending any money, the more I am in awe of God’s design.

It makes sense that God, in his infinite omniscience, built healing modalities into his creation that are available to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. We know that he’s not a respecter of persons, we know that Jesus came to tear down social barriers, and we know that he chose to reveal himself to people who weren’t deemed high-status.

As I said in last week’s post on mitochondria, God is light. Jehovah Rapha comes to Earth every 12 hours, at sunrise and sunset, to heal us. To heal the “least of these.” In the most inclusive medical care in the universe, God invites you to experience Him.

How many people are suffering, while God stands outside their home, waiting for them to step outside and experience his healing?

Remember what Jesus said?

Do you want to get well?

Pick up your mat and walk. Outside at sunrise and sunset. (Ok, Jesus didn’t really say that, so please don’t get all legalistic on me and say I’m trying to add my words to the gospel).

I’ll be out there soaking up my Jesus every sunrise and sunset for the next few months.

Thank you for sharing!
