Hello, tender friends!
Ahh, a steaming cup of tea in a decluttered living room. This is one of my great life’s pleasures. The wood floors seem shinier these days and my head feels clearer as I’ve gotten in touch with what brings me joy.
This decluttering is a process. A marathon and not a sprint. But I’ve been relishing each moment. If you missed my initial post on decluttering, you can find it here.
Here are 3 Things I’ve delighted in so far:
- I went into some cabinets that had random old supplements, protein powders, etc in them. I discovered a container of ashwagandha that we had purchased and put in the cabinet and forgotten about. I LOVE ashwagandha. In case you don’t know, it’s an adaptogenic herb that makes your body more adaptable to stress. It’s available in supplement or powder form, and the powder quite honestly taste like dirt if you drink it without anything else. But you know what? When I discovered this in the cabinet, I made myself some warm milk and stirred ashwagandha into the milk with cinnamon. This created a relaxing and alcohol-free nightcap. It was the perfect way to end the day, so peaceful, especially given that my living room was now decluttered! Cub was in bed, and I just gazed upon my gleaming floors like I’d never seen them as I sipped and relaxed, sipped and relaxed.

- I have made better use of my clothing. I have discarded clothing made from synthetic fibers, as I have been unable to tolerate them since being pregnant. It’s not so much an allergy or sensitivity as much as this feeling of displeasure. In the words of Marie Kondo, synthetic fibers don’t “spark joy.” I also uncovered some pants that had gotten weirdly stretched out in the knee area. Inspired by my decluttering, I knew I had to either discard the pants or repurpose them, because the weird baggy me area did not spark joy. I consequently cut them off and turned them into shorts. Not fancy or anything, but comfortable and useful mom wear. And now, because of their usefulness and practicality, an item that didn’t spark joy before does.
- I uncovered a series of other items that we hadn’t been using because they didn’t have a dedicated space for them. We’d consequently forgotten we owned them or else been unable to find them. For example, I found been this rose water spray that I love but hadn’t been able to find for months. I uncovered a baby powder with all safe organic ingredients that we hadn’t used up when Cub was in diapers. I unearthed in all natural non-toxic cleaner that my friend had sent me when Cub was born that is useful but was sitting in the closet never used.
The common thread in all of these items is that we were sitting upon blessings and not using them. Life lesson: your blessings aren’t a couch.

We’re not big consumers by any means, and Anthony and I both strive to not spend money unnecessarily, particularly since Cub was born. But we were not using blessings that were already bought and paid for.
And you know what? That’s a lot like not accepting forgiveness. It’s already bought and paid for.
So there it is… decluttering makes me feel closer to Jesus.
Ok, thanks so much to the new friends, and welcome! I’ll be sharing an update on VBS on Thursday. (Spoiler alert: I cried happy tears today).
