Tips #6-10 for Rehabbing Adrenals

Hello again, tender friends! If you missed my first five tips for rehabilitating adrenals, you can check them out here. Here we go with tips #6-10!

6) Spend as much time outside as possible. I used to spend 12+ hours a day at work, and frequently gazed out the window longing to be outside. Looking back, I see that my body was trying to tell me what I needed to do to be healthy. I had always lived by the mantra, “Work hard and play later,” but later never actually came. Consequently, the only time I was outside was going to my car to drive to work in the morning and going to my car to drive home after work, always in the dark.

7) Indulge in Epsom salt foot baths. Of course, a full body bath is wonderful if that’s possible for you. Because it wasn’t for me, I purchased a foot bath instead. During my most intense times of recovery, I gave myself a foot bath every day. I looked forward to this because it only took about 10 minutes and was a double blessing in the sense that the Epsom salt restored my magnesium levels (your body absorbs the magnesium through your skin) and the hot water relaxed me. If you are facing illness, it is imperative that you give yourself something to look forward to every day that is also healthy for you.

8) Consume cholesterol. As I’ve shared in the past, this is controversial, but I personally eat lots of grass-fed butter, high-quality pastured meat, and eggs. In addition to the egg recipes I’ve already shared, I regularly consume milkshakes made of raw whole milk, frozen fruit and raw egg yolks. Raw egg yolks are incredibly delicious and give the milkshake a delicious frothy consistency. (As a side note, perhaps a future post, I do not touch any sort of conventional dairy product with a ten-foot pole).

9) Exercise gently. I noticed in the few years leading up to realizing I had a physical problem that I was exhausted after running. I ignored how much my body was struggling to get through a workout and just kept forcing my body to do it. I would always have to go home and sleep after the gym but didn’t realize that I was actually hurting myself/making it hard for my body to heal.

10) Spend some time meditating on the fact that God created you as a miracle, not a machine. This is actually still an area of struggle for me, as I have gotten teary-eyed typing this. For years I treated my body like a machine, and my body did what machines do: it broke down. I broke down.

Notice the following verse does not say you’re fearfully and wonderfully made if you make 100k a year, or have a high-status profession, or just ran a triathlon, or just orchestrated world peace. You’re a miracle even if you don’t do any of those things.

This is, as I said, something I’m writing, in part, to remind myself. I’m still working hard to get this truth into my spirit.

I am a miracle, not a machine.

I am a miracle, not a machine.

Say it with me: I am a miracle, not a machine.

Ok, thank you for visiting, tender friends! Next post I’ll be sharing about a friend’s healing experience. Stay blessed, tender friends!

Also, I have not forgotten about the request for me to post about my mom’s cancer treatment. I am working on getting it together as I have time! My parents are currently visiting my brother in Florida, but I’m planning on getting that post together as soon as they’re back from vacation.

Thank you for sharing!

I’m not a bath person. I’d never considered just bathing my feet. Thanks for the great idea!

I feel like “self-care” is trite because it’s so overused at this point, BUT I love the fact that a foot bath is a form of self-care that forces you to pause and have a bit of respite in a busy world and that it can also be healthy! But I still shower for overall cleanliness because it feels more efficient.

Thank you so much! It’s so helpful to know what people actually find useful. I just feel like I lost all desire to read research once research told me I wouldn’t heal, so I really value “personal insights.”
